TRIP TO HILLSBORO
These are some pictures from our trip to the Kickapoo Valley Reserve over the 4th. This is the Sanford house in Hillsboro.
We had a great time, took a short (2 hour) canoe trip down the Kickapoo River Sunday, and I was able to meet the owners and see the home of Arnold and Viola Widmer. The house is not sold and is in the process of being restored.--Mary

Mary ~ That house is amazing. I loved it back in the 50s and 60s and it looks even better now. It was an awesome place to visit as a child. I would love to have a Hillsboro brochure when you get a chance... no hurry. Do you have any pics of the Arnold Widmer house when they lived in it? I don't think I've ever seen one. Thanks for posting - sounds like you had an enjoyable time on the Kickapoo. Mom said the 4th of July celebration in LaFarge was the highlight of the year and they would all dress up to go to the event. Is that the same thing that you went to?

We watched the parade and then the fireworks that night. Both very impressive for the little town. They had other events at the high school, but we spent the day at the Kickapoo Valley Reserve Center where they displayed the photos of the homes and residents who were moved out in the 1960's when the Corps of Engineers, in their infinite wisdom, decided to build that big dam, and when it was 3/4 completed, discontinued the project!
