FAMILY RECIPE
LEMON PIE
(Ruth Sanford)
>Mix together:
1/4 c. sugar
4 rounded Tbsp. flour
>Mix together:
1 3/4 c. water
Juice and grated rind of 2 lemons
>Gradually add dry ingredients to liquid in sauce pan; bring to boil and cook until thick, stirring constantly
>2 egg yolks, beaten (save whites for merengue); add small amount of pie filling to egg yolks and mix well, then add it all back into pie filling
>Cook slowly another 2 minutes, stirring
>Remove from heat and stir in 1 Tbsp. butter; cool; pour into cooled baked pie shell
>Whip egg whites until stiff peaks form, adding in 1/4 c. sugar and 1/2 tsp. cream of tartar while whipping; add to top of pie
>Put in 400-425 oven a few minutes, until nicely browned

That's great, Mary. Do you think that's Margaret Lawton seated? And the man next to Frank, is that Lon? Then I'm guessing the other children are either John or Lon's kids. I've never seen a photo of Margaret at that age. I have one of the Lawton family much earlier when the twins were boys. Hazel's really attractive there, and of course Ruth... I guess Geneva just couldn't hold still... ~Nancy~
Nancy, that is incredible !! It never occurred to me it might be Margaret. Mom told me John, her, Ruth and Maggie Rose next to Ruth--I'll have to find out who Maggie Rose is--- Margaret died in 1909 and Diamond in 1894, so it probably is her. The postcard picture is not dated.---Mary
That is so wonderful to have pictures like these. Such history!
