I found this photo of Mary Ann, Jim, Geneva, and Mary. They are standing in front of the Sanford's house in Hillsboro WI. There's no date on it.

FAMILY RECIPE
LEMON PIE
(Ruth Sanford)
>Mix together:
1/4 c. sugar
4 rounded Tbsp. flour
>Mix together:
1 3/4 c. water
Juice and grated rind of 2 lemons
>Gradually add dry ingredients to liquid in sauce pan; bring to boil and cook until thick, stirring constantly
>2 egg yolks, beaten (save whites for merengue); add small amount of pie filling to egg yolks and mix well, then add it all back into pie filling
>Cook slowly another 2 minutes, stirring
>Remove from heat and stir in 1 Tbsp. butter; cool; pour into cooled baked pie shell
>Whip egg whites until stiff peaks form, adding in 1/4 c. sugar and 1/2 tsp. cream of tartar while whipping; add to top of pie
>Put in 400-425 oven a few minutes, until nicely browned

This was from our fun trip in June, 2000 to Rockton, Hillsboro and the Lawton cemetery between LaFarge and Viola. Jim took pictures of the war memorial in Hillsboro with Leonard's name. Thanks for posting!

Clint, I believe Ruth lived in/ owned this house when she passed away in 1978. It is a beautiful Victorian home on the river in Hillsboro.

Is this the house that was for sale? Does anyone know if it sold?

Sarah - the house that was for sale was Arnold and Viola's house in Rockton. This is G'ma and G'pa Sanford's house where I got to go sometimes in the summer. And a couple of times in winter. I remember the lake behind the house froze over and we got to ice skate. It was a wonderful house! Still is.

Mary,
I've been inside that house a few times. I remember if you faced the front of the house the river was on your left. That garage was on the left also. It held that big, monsterous tan colored Oldsmobile.
I remember Dad messing with her once when we took her out to eat. He was lighting a cigarette and he turned the flame up on the lighter as high as it would go and lit it as he sat across the tabel from her.
I also remember Dad and Dick replacing the front porch...pretty sure of that. Also her auction after she passed away - selling soft drinks, etc. off the front porch.

Kim, I didn't know that. Thanks. Interesting, because Leonard was a painter, and Clint is a photographer. On one of our trips to Hillsboro, we (Mary Ann, Jim and I ) tried to find out more about his paintings from the Chamber of Commerce and the Library, but were unable to.
Clint, I'm trying to find more pictures of the Hillsboro house. I have pictures from Ruth's funeral but they don't show the house. I'll send the scans to Nancy to identify the people.
Sarah, i don't know if the house in Rockton has sold, but I will keep checking.
